Polynesian Voyage Society

KFC...? You know those people who nibble on those chicken bones? Well those chicken bones were radiocarbon dated to see when the polynesians travelled to South America. The result was that the polynesians travelled to South America in the pre columbian year. Pre columbian means, "Relating to the history and cultures of the Americas before the arrival of Columbus in 1492." So they travelled before the year 1492.

MEGAZONE!

Have you ever experienced Megazone? Megazone is a place where kids can hang out and play arcade games. But most of all be entertained by the laser tag!

Firstly, in Megazone the best activity you can play is the amazing laser tag! Before you can take part, you have to watch the briefing video so you know all the rules and what to do. The rules are no climbing, no foul language, no lying down or physical contact. What you have to do is try to find bases, which is worth 2001 points, and destroy them, hint... hint... but not your own. You also have to tag the other team, (enemies) with your phaser, (gun) and get more points. For a laser tag on the back you get 50 points, front you get 200 and shoulders you get 20.

There is also another fun activity at Megazone, which is the Bumper Cars! They are very cool because you don’t get injured when you collide with another car, its like there indestructible. Its kind of scary though because, when you look up at the top of other cars you will see little electric sparks popping out and you don’t want to get electrocuted do you?

Megazone can be used for special occasions such as parties, breakups, school holiday activity and a reward for good children. Parties are best as they have party rooms and group discounts for ten or more kids.

In conclusion Megazone is an awesome place to host parties, break ups and other special occasions. Megazone is a guaranteed place for enjoyment, especially kids.

Being Fit

Did you know that your body is an amazing machine? It just needs to be used everyday to keep it working well.

Exercise keeps your body strong and fit. Fitness means having the energy to work, play and do all the things you want to do easily. Your body cannot store fitness, so you need to exercise regularly... to stay fit.

Exercise makes you feel and look better. It keeps your body a healthy weight, it helps you relax and sleep better. When you exercise, your body produces chemicals called endorphins, which go to your brain and make you feel good.

Exercise for strength makes your muscles stronger, so you can work different parts of your body, without feeling weak. Exercise for stamina makes your heart and lungs stronger, and helps blood flow easily around your body. Stamina is the ability to exercise for longer, without getting tired or out of breathe. So you need to move it!

Storyline Tour - Reflection

We have come back from the storyline festival and it was not what I expected. My favourite two authors were Juliet Mclver and Catherine Mayo. Juliet because she was very enthusiastic about her stories and she told us how she came up with the names of her books.  For example her book Mamaduke Duck was becasue she liked the name Duke and she also liked Duck and the mama part I can't remember. I liked Catherine Mayo too because she used the projector which was cool as we didn't have to look at the same photo all the time. She showed us some photos of some greek swords then pulled out a real one. So thats why I like the two authors.

If I was to present at that festival, the resources I would use to deliver my message will be a microphone, so people can hear me from the back.  I would also use a projector so everyone can see the pictures, not just the people in the front, because if you show pictures on a piece of paper then people at the back might not be able to see them.

Other things I would've wanted to find out is what makes a good author, why is there two different people in the same book like the illustrator and the author why can't the author be the illustrator and how long does it take for them to write a book?

I would like to thank the authors who presented to us for giving up their time to tell us important things in life, like to keep reading now at this age so we can be good authors when we grow up. Most importantly, treat other people the way you would like to be treated.

BEST WEEKEND EVER

“Yes! It is west wave pool day!” I shouted with excitement. Straight away I jumped out of bed and woke my mum up. “Mum! Wave pools today, wave pools today!” She woke up startled, shouting at me, “The waves pools aren't till 9pm not 9am." “What?” I replied confused. I thought they were from 6-12. “Go have a rest because we will be picking up Maata, Zane and Collin to go get a feed at 7.” “Ok.” I said sadly then went back to sleep.

“Yawn!” I get up and walk to the kitchen and GUESS WHAT TIME IT IS?” It is already 6:30pm and I'm still in my pj’s! I haven’t even organized what i’m going to swim in yet. I quickly sprint to my room. I put my swim gear underneath my casual clothes, wash my face put on moisturizer and put on my special wacky hair gel like the worlds going to end. In an instant I thought it was 7 but actually it is only 6:40pm. “Lets go, we are going to be late!” I yell to my mum from the hallway and she runs out like theres a bomb in her room. We sprinted outside to her car and zoomed off. “Vrmmmm!”

First stop was Collin’s house and he was watching tv with his sister with his bag packed. I told him lets go,  so he did. He said bye to his family and entered our car then we drove off to Zane’s house. “BEEP!” My mum’s horn went. I opened the door to Zane’s house and there they were just about to exit. We were both surprised. I walked back to the car with Zane while his mum Maata went around to the passenger door/seat. When Zane came in the car he got a big surprise. "RAAHH!" It was Collin. Zane turned around and shouted, "AHHH!" Like he was going to die. After having a laugh I saw the time 7:20 so I knew we would make it there in time. To make a long story short we (The Boys and Mums) had a big feed at Burger King or what we like to call BK and drove off to Mt. Albert wave pools.

“Splish, Splash, BOOM!” “WOOHOO!” I screamed with joy. Zane, Collin and I are speeding like a car going 100 km per hour on the hydroslide. Twisting and turning in every direction we finally reach the end. “Lets do it again!” We all cried simultaneously. So we did, “Round 2!”. This time we went on our stomachs and it felt like we were going 1000 km per hour now. “That was WAY WAY BETTER!” I shouted while choking on water. “BRRRRR!” “Ahhh!” I screamed like a girl. When suddenly, I got startled by a whistle. The noise was to signal that the waves were coming. While the boys and I laughed, we screamed, “WAVES ARE COMING!” Collin and Zane left me in the dust as they ran to the wave pool. “Wait for me!” I yelled as I chased them down. “Woow, woow!” I said as the waves swirled up and down continuously. “Jump onto the wall like this.” Zane showed me. “I will give it a try.” “Jump! Jump! Jump!” It was easy I kept jumping and jumping it was so awesome. At approximately 11:50pm we had to get changed so we were ready to leave at 12 A.K.A midnight. When we came out of the changing rooms it was 11:57 and most people were out of the pool. The boys and I walked outside and unsurprisingly saw my mum and Maata waiting in the car.  We were on our way home when an idea popped into my head....sleepover!

NZ Host The Games!

Did you know that the Commonwealth games have been hosted by Aotearoa (NZ) 3 times? The years we have hosted are 1950 - in the city of Auckland, 1974 - in the city of Christchurch and in 1990 - in the city of Auckland.

I have found out about 1974 and the details relating to hosting the Commonwealth games. The movie here will show and tell you what the logo/mascot was then, the uniform they used to wear, sports they played and how many medals they won.

Chilling With Zane!

On a cold winters morning I was sitting at home chatting to my friend Zane on gmail. He asked if I wanted to come over and hang out. So I queried my mum and hoped that she would answer me positively. Much to my surprise she said yes, “WOOHOO!” I shouted excitedly. Being over excited I quickly ran to my room and organized my gear to take to his house. Then at exactly 2:00 Zane’s mum, Maata, came and picked me up. I waved back at my mum as she was getting ready to go to work.

When we entered Zane’s house, Clinton, Zanes dad, was sitting on the couch watching T.V. while Kaycee, his sister, was in her room talking with her friend. Zane and I were planning on what our first activity should be. He said, “First we should play BO2. Second we should do rotations on my laptop and our netbooks, then last watch a movie. Probably Battle Of The Year?” I agreed.

So Zane and I asked his dad if we could put on the xbox and play BO2 (Black Ops 2), he said, “Yes.”  Zane set the game console up. After setting it up we played multiplayer mode so we could both play. Halfway through playing multiplayer we decided to do our second activity which was to play Minecraft. You may already know what Minecraft is from my previous holiday story. If not click the link below. http://pesstevensone.blogspot.co.nz/2014/07/why-are-video-games-good.html

So back to the story, the reason why I went to Zane’s house was to literally hang out, play Black Ops 2 and Minecraft with him. I was very happy... I felt like I was welcome at his house because his mum made us lunch and dinner and his family were cool and enjoyed my company ( I think). I felt so comfortable there. They had everything I like for example fish & chips and lots of video games.

Around 10:30 my mum arrived but I wasn’t ready to go, so my mum and Zane’s mum talked for a while. Zane and I were still playing on minecraft in his room. A few hours later though Maata came and told me that my mum was ready to go, so I said goodbye to Kaycee, Maata, Clinton and Zane and exited the front door. When my mum and I walked out the door I asked her if I could sleepover but I got denied.

Hanging out with Zane was such an awesome experience because I had lots of fun and great company. I hope that I will get to sleepover next time.

Why Are Video Games Good?

Why are video games good? Video games are good because it keeps you busy, teaches you things and keeps you fit. How does video games keep you busy? One of the reasons why video games are good because if you're, bored, alone or inactive you could play on a game console, such as a xbox. I always play video games that can teach me things such as the game called Minecraft. What is minecraft?

Minecraft is a video game where you build things like a house (as many stories as you want), fast food buildings such as a Mcdonalds, pools, people, minion, mods, skins, literary anything. Minecraft is infinite which means the world is limitless. Minecraft can also teach you how to make things like armor, sticks, wood planks etc by crafting and collecting supplies by mining diamonds, iron or gold. Minecraft is a really good interesting game that is addictive. Fitness Time!

Keeping you fit is another reason why video games are good. There are games that you can play that can get you fit like the Dance Central Series, Just Dance Succession, Kinect Sports and many more. Dance Central is a game where you have to mirror the onscreen characters moves with either a family member, friend or by yourself, its the same with Just Dance but you can play upto 4 players. Kinect sports is a variety of sport games that you can play such as boxing, soccer, track and field, bowling etc.

In conclusion video games are good as they can keep you, busy if you're bored, it can teach you things like how to build a house or a restaurant and most of all keep you fit by playing Dance Central, Just Dance or Kinect Sports. Who would want to live without video games!

PAY DAY!!

Every Thursday I get excited because I get payed $10 for doing my chores. My jobs are to clean my room, dishes, microwave and sweep the kitchen floor. If I do a good job I get an extra $5. So during these holidays I have been going hard out to get more money. This has paid off as not only my mum, given me money but my nana and grandpa have also paid me too. So I am going to go shopping at PAK N SAVE today to spend my cash and travel to Botany Downs and play at Xtreme Entertainment.

In PAK N SAVE there is a range of things you can choose like meat, pork, chocolate, fruits, veggies, popcorn, biscuits, fish, salmon and many other foods. The things I like to buy are steak, chocolate, popcorn, fruits and veggies. I like these things because they are all healthy except for popcorn and chocolate, they are my treats. If I don’t have enough money my mum buys my shopping.  Hmm Xtreme Entertainment? I have never been to the one in Botany I have only experienced the one in Wairau Valley. Xtreme Entertainment is a stupendous building where all these arcade games are inside and they have a laser tag room too. I want to go there, as I want to try out Botanys laser tag to see if it is any good compared to the one in Wairau Valley.

Next Thursday instead of getting paid, I hope my mum will let me have a sleepover with my friends. She says no a lot because sometimes she is busy or somethings come up unexpectedly. I love sleepovers because its a time where I can hang out with my friends 24/7. Also I don’t have any siblings which makes me a bit bored. My previous sleep overs have been awesome experiences.

I like Thursdays for many reasons such as getting paid, going shopping and having fun at new places. Whats your favourite day of the week and why? Comment down below to answer this question. COOL THANX MKAY BYE!

Why Is Junk Food Bad?

People may ask why is junk food bad? Well most of all it can get you fat, give you bad skin and it doesn't have enough vitamins and minerals. Junk food is also bad as it could cause diabetes and make you very sick. Thats why it is important to follow the food pyramid.

The food pyramid is a big triangle that has foods that you should eat little, moderately and mostly. Up the top is a small triangle that has all the things that you should eat less such as fats, oils, sugar and salt. Below is the protein such as meat & alternatives which is what we should moderately eat. Then it is fruits, vegetables, rice and alternatives which we should select more. Next is fatness.

Eating too much junk food gets you fat and thats what you don’t want because it could lead to obesity. Most junk foods are filled with fat and are calorie-dense and nutrients poor. This means that the nutrition thats in the food is poor and the calories are high to make it more dense in matter. So if I were you I would stick to the food pyramid. After fatness comes bad skin.

Bad skin is horrendous and ugly which is caused by eating too much junk food! I mean do you really want pimples or patchy skin? If you answered no well stop freakin eating junk food mate. If you answered yes well, uhmm just keep eating junk food OKAY!

I conclude that junk food is bad! I mean bad, bad. Its not good for you, but if you still don’t listen to me I suggest you go get yourself a good food doctor that can teach you how to STOP FREAKIN EATING JUNK FOOD!!!!!

Malawi DLO

This term the Year 5&6 extension group have been learning about Malawi. Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world. They don't have much food and any clean water. So everyone that has a variety of food and complains, you should be grateful for what you have because there are people who are less fortunate than you. There are more facts in my movie. Hope you enjoy ≧◉◡◉≦!

Laser Blaster/Super Hearer

Every single Superhero has powers that you could never imagine. Superheros also have cool costumes and vehicles but this guy has awesome ones. Kendrix Jones is very good at computers and robotics. Everybody thinks he is a dork but nobody knows what he’s capable of. Also in combat he gets really mental e.g if somebody mocks him by naming him a mummy’s boy he could break their legs with a flash look. He’s not the only one with powers, he has friends who have powers too.

Kendrix Jones used to be an ordinary scientist but on one fatal night everything in his life changed. When him and his scientist friends (Superhero Team Name: Justice Supreme) were testing some secret gadgets, some BLUE METH DEALERS chucked them into one of their containers, which had special chemicals that gave them unearthly abilities.

Justice supreme is our superhero team name. We have 4 members plus me which equals 5 in our crew.
  • Number 1 is Commander Stupendous (Magnetism) - He can project magnetic forces, manipulating and controlling metal in any shape or form!
  • Number 2 Lightning Boy (Electrical Powers) - He has the ability to control and manipulate electrical power, whether it's overloading any technological device, or summoning a 10,000 volt charge of lightning to devastate your opponents!
  • Number 3 The Storm Master (Weather Control) - His powers gives him access to the elements of the air, and control of weather - from torrential rain and hurricanes to lightning, hail storms and snow!
  • Number 4 The Mighty Mind (Persuasion) - His superpower is he can make anyone do whatever he asks of them, simply with the power of his mind!
  • Number 5 Laser Blaster/ Super Hearer (Burning/ Super Hearing) Can blast lasers from his eyes, can make people deaf from the power of his hearing!

Nobody knew where he came from and everyone mocked him. He pretended he was an ordinary kid in high school, but really he could shoot Lasers from his eyes also he has super hearing. He has special gadgets and secret vehicles like an Underground Jet, Speed Boat, Trick shoes and a Utility Belt. His weaknesses are that if he uses his lasers too much he goes blind for 2 days. If you want to read more about this superhero, leave me a comment.

The Power Of 40 (20 Hour Famine)

World Vision PES 20 hour famine team from SchoolTV on Vimeo.

"The Power Of 40!"
As the stars slowly began to rise the famine team (Extension Members) got the opportunity to sleep over at our school, Pt England. The extension members were doing the 20 Hour Famine. We are sleeping in the school library to raise funds for the children in Malawi. This money will go towards fresh water, better housing, nutritious food and a better school for their education.

These children are unlucky because they have to travel far to find food and clean water. But here in NZ its right in front of us. For this reason I am doing the famine to experience what the Malawians go through everyday.

One interesting fact that I learnt from the 40 hour famine Ambassadors was that they told us, the toilets are just a hole in the ground, shared by over 100 people in the village. Another fascinating fact is that in some of the lakes there are crocodiles and the fish in Malawi is very delicious.
