Training With The Auckland Blue's

SOAP BOX DERBY 2013

Each Soap box Derby team has 4 drivers and 6 pit crew.  Obviously a driver is a person that drives a car but instead for soap box derby they drive a trolley.  A trolley is a small ovoid with 4 wheels similar to a go-kart. You have to have to be a certain size, height and weight to be able to drive it.

The pit crew are people who polish the kart, carry it onto scales to weigh, make sure the wheels are spinning and everything is working.  They also keep the driver cool and shaded from the sun.

While getting ready to race I was absolutely excited.  I was excited as it was my very first time to be in one of these competitions before.  First we had to weigh the kart with me in it before going any further.  This was to check that all competitors had an equal amount of weight.  After that one of the pit crew members shaded me with an umbrella while the others carried the vehicle over onto the starting platform. Then I hoped into the trolley.

“Are you ready?” The race officials questioned me. “Yes I am,” I replied back. “Ok, ONE! TWO! THREE! GO!” Then off we went down the hill then into the dip and through the finish line. “What did I come mum?” I asked. “I’m not sure? Wait until they announce it.” She replied… “Pt. England School first.” The race officials announced. “Hooray,” the supporters cheered merrily.

Participating in Soap Box Derby was challenging because there were heaps of schools that I had to compete against. However, it was still an awesome experience driving down a hill with my family and friends cheering me on.  If you want to see me in action come to Nationals on Sunday the 7th of April at Whangaparoa.

Here's my team's camp item.

Sleeping In A Tent

While sleeping in a tent with two other boys right beside me was so uncomfortable because there was not much space. Also the ground was lumpy and uneven. It was absolutely crammed.

Camp writing

Have you camped outside your own school before? Well i have and it is awesome because we can play with our friends. This camp was only for year 5 and 6’s.

We did lots of activities such as top town, get lost, roller skating and many more. My favourite activity was get lost. It is similar to the program the amazing race which is challenging.

I’m having lots of fun I can’t wait for next year. Also here is a picture of me and my friends.

Stevenson's Ducks

Visit To Muriwai

When Our Chromebooks Dissapeared

This is my edited version.

Dddddddding... “The bell went guys lets go to class Louis told Stevenson and Collin”. So off they raced to class excited to play on their chromebooks.

After catching their breath they went and waited in line for their new devices. While they were waiting to get their chromebooks it wasn’t there. “ This is very strange. What a mystery?” They said to each other.  “ I wonder where our chromebooks are.” They all thought in their mind.

Suddenly somebody farted.“ Fart.” “ Eww!” the entire class yelled. “ Guys did you see that? There’s an invisible cyclone.” Stevenson told Collin and Louis “ No we didn’t Stevenson.” Louis and Collin replied.” “Somebody fart again.” Cried out Stevenson. “ fart.” “ Guys can you see it now. Look! Look!” So they looked. “ Ahh. Now we can see it.” they replied back. “ We should follow it.”

While they were following it,  it led them to Omaru Creek. Then the invisible cyclone
dissolved into thin air. “ Come on guys we can do this only one more big burp.” So they all got ready. “ On the count of three one, two, three.” “ BURP!” Then the cyclone appeared at the bridge.

“ I hope our netbooks are there.” They prayed to Jesus. Guess what was on the bridge our chromebooks. “Hooray.” They all cheered. “ Finally we found our missing chromebooks.”

The moral of the story is if  your things start disappearing theres always a solution to find them.

Top Schools

Last Sunday I went to an annual event named Top schools. It was hosted by The Rotary Club Of Auckland East.

When I arrived the sky was pouring down with rain. I was absolutely drenched with water.

I felt happy and excited. Why? Because it was my very first time going to top school. Also I knew that my school mates would be there as they are good athletes too.

We participated in 8 events, which included a slippery slide, gumboot throw, ski run, newspaper delivery and husky run. Some events were challenging while the others were simple.

The game that I enjoyed the most was the newspaper delivery. It was a fantastic obstacle course. First we had to hit a soccer ball, with a rolled up newspaper, zig zag around four plates and repeat the same thing back to where we began. Next we run to a net and you had to crawl under it. After getting past that, you had to throw the newspaper into a bucket. You had to get as many newspapers as you could in a certain amount of time.

By the end of the day I was incredibly exhausted.  My entire body was drained and my calf muscles were crying out for help. I thought I was going to faint. Suddenly I eat a chocolate bar and I was back to normal.

Overall Top School was an enjoyable day as there were a variety  of activities that I was able to participate in. I hope to attend again next year.

When Our Chromebooks Disappeared

This is my work of 40 minutes and next week come back and see my advanced work

“Dddddddding.” The bell went guys Louis told Stevenson and Collin. “Lets go to class.” So they went to class.

When they got to class to go on the chromebooks it wasn’t there. “ This is strange.” Collin said surprisingly. “ Did you guys find your chromebooks?” Collin asked. “ No.” Came the reply from Louis and Stevenson.

“ Fart.” “ Eww!” the entire class yelled. “ Guys can you see that? There’s an invisible cyclone.” Stevenson told Collin and Louis “ No we can’t Stevenson.” Louis and Collin replied.” “Somebody fart again.” “ fart.” “ Guys can you see it now. Look Look.” So they looked. “ Ahh. Now we can see it.” they replied back. “ We should follow it.

While they were following it it guided them to the Omaru Creek. Then the invisible cyclone
disovled in the air. “ Come on guys we can do this only one more big burp.” So they all got ready. “ On the count of three one two three.” “ BURP!”
