Fast Rust Task - W5T4
Fast Rust Task - With Alfa
Rust
Walt: Synthesize information from multiple resources.
Task
Work on this Doc together with a partner.
What 3 ingredients are needed for rust to occur.
Iron
|
Oxygen
|
Water
|
Write a brief paragraph explaining the rusting process (why rusting occurs)
Oxygen from the air mixes with water. The iron surface of the nail reacts with the oxygen mixed in the water. It forms iron oxide. Iron oxide reacts with the water. It forms hydrated iron oxide - red stuff we call rust. This process continues until all the iron is eaten up.
|
How could you prevent something from rusting?
Use paint and alloys (mixes of metals). Another way of avoiding rust is using spray-on wax or oil coatings that the car companies sell. One alloy that could be used is stainless steel, which helps the the iron to last longer (rusts slower). Keep iron away from water and oxygen. Another way is by galvanising. This means to coat Zinc over iron and only the zinc will be affected but you can easily wash it of. You could also use a coating of paint to stop water from getting into cracks to stop or to slow down the rusting process.
|
Write 3 sentences explaining something new you’ve learned from this reading.
We learnt that oxygen, air and water is what causes things to rust. Also we didn’t know that rust could be prevented by painting over the metal, using spray-on wax or oil coatings. All iron objects can be rusted if they are exposed by oxygen and water including trains, bikes (chains), skateboards (wheel bearings), house roof and many other things. One interesting fact that we found out was that the harbour bridge has the biggest paint job to prevent it from rusting.

To The People That Have Been Affected By The Earthquake
To the people that have been affected by the earthquake in the South Island, we hope you guys will recover from the damage in your communities. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all. We hope you recover soon… you are in our hearts. We are sorry to hear these kind of things and hope you haven’t lost anyone in your family.
On Tuesday the 15th of November, 8:17 AM a disaster struck. A strong magnitude 7.5 earthquake hit 15 km N of Kaikoura, New Zealand. It is one of the biggest earthquakes in New Zealand. Tsunami warnings have been announced to affect the top of the South Island. I hope that this is not the case.
I understand that houses were badly damaged and so were roads. The earthquakes also caused landslides, power cuts and floods. Some business owners didn’t have insurance. This meant that damage to their buildings would cause them to move out or they would have to pay for the damage. During the earthquake many gutless robbers decided it was good to loot and take from houses stealing people's belongings. These people deserve to be caught and punished.
Once again we are sorry for your hometown being affected by this natural disaster. Hopefully you guys find your way through life. God bless you all.

States Of Matter
Discussion Doc
States of matter
Task
Work on this Doc together with a partner or in a 3.
Give three examples of each state of matter?
Solid
|
Liquid
|
Gas
|
Table
|
Milk
|
Carbon Dioxide
|
Wood
|
Water
|
Air
|
Ice
|
Juice
|
Steam
|
What’s the difference between the three states of matter?
Solids
|
Liquids
|
Gases
|
In a solid, particles are packed tightly together so they are unable to move about very much.
|
In the liquid phase, the particles of a substance have more kinetic energy than those in a solid.
|
Gas particles have a great deal of space between them and have high kinetic energy.
|
Write 3 sentences explaining something new you learned from this reading.
I’ve learnt that everything is made out of matter as it takes up space and has weight in it. Even me im made out of matter as I have weight and take up space.
Water can be any state of matter as well. Another thing I’ve learned. Hydrological cycle or the h20 cycle is the name of the water cycle. The first part of the cycle is when water evaporates and rises to the clouds which is called condensation. When the clouds are full it then forms rain the second part of the cycle. The last part is when precipitation begins which is water falling back to the floor and the cycle starts over again.

Tamaki College Experience: Maths T3W9
In maths class today we were learning about algebra with Mrs. Dunn. We learnt that:
- Algebra is numbers and letters
- Variables are the same, we call them like terms (example: 2a,3a)
- Coefficients are numbers just before letter and are joined together
- Constants are numbers by themselves
- Letters must be in alphabetical order
- Equations have equals and expressions have none
Below are some expression question that Mrs. Dunn gave our class and I’ve answered:
2a+5a, 7a
4c+5c, 9a
7p - 4p, 3p
ab + 2ab, 3ab
2a + 4c + 5c + 5a, 7a + 9c
3g + 8h + 6g + 2h, 9g + 10h
3f + 2g + 4f + 7g, 7f + 9g
2a + 3a2 + 4a, 3a2 + 3a

Tamaki College Experience: English T3W9
In english class today we were taught by Mr. Stevenson. Our activity was to remember the words he put on the whiteboard and write them in a doc when he told us. After we wrote down all the words we had to get images that matched the words. Here is how I completed the activity.

Cowboys Thrash Warriors 43-8
Simon Mannering (13) and Nathaniel Roache devasted at their lost over North Queensland Cowboys |
Johnathan Thurston and his team mates celebrate a great win. After beating the New Zealand team, North Queensland smashed them 43-8. In order to keep their premiership spirits alive the Warriors now have to win their next two matches against the West Tigers and Paramatta Eels. They also need the Gold Coast Titans to lose their next two games, against the Penrith Panthers and North Queensland Cowboys.
GO THE WARRIORS!
Warriors Vs Cowboys Rnd 24
Tonight the North Queensland Cowboys will host the the New Zealand Warriors at 1300 Smiles Stadium in Townsville at 9:30pm. I can’t wait to watch this game as two of my favourite teams will go head to head. The line up is below.
